Promotional Product of the Month – T-shirts

Yes, T-shirts! Promotional T-shirts are a fabulous way to promote your company name or brand! There are literally hundreds of styles/colours/materials of t-shirts out there. You don’t have to go with the 100% cotton crew neck t-shirt with a one colour left chest silk screened logo. The technology in printing and fabrics over the last few years has been incredible.  These new fabrics and printing processes allow us to better customize t-shirts.

There are a few different printing processes we can do on promotional t-shirts. We are no longer limited to the size of a screen for silk screening.  Promotional Bridge can help you design some cool graphics and help you choose the right printing process.

A great example of a digital imprint on a black t-shirt

A digital imprint on a black t-shirt.

Digital printing reminds me of a digital printer printing onto t-shirts other than paper. This process does have it limitations on size and location but it brings full colour designs to a price point that is bearable. There are no set up charges with digital printing!  With silk screening, there are usually set ups for every colour which can add up. (Especially with those 8 + colour designs.)

Heat seals are awesome for when the logo has to have pantone matching. We can keep colours bright and have tight registration in the logo or design. This process has really been perfected over the past few years. It used to be that the heat seal would have a white outline around the logo. This is no longer the case.  The heat seals can be die cut around the design and pressed onto the t-shirt for lasting impressions.

Sublimation is one of the coolest printing processes I’ve ever seen. The printer uses heat to melt the ink into fabric of the t-shirts allowing the shirts to be fully customized!  (We often do this process on jerseys.)  Yes, fully customized.  We can design the entire t-shirt or simply have one location. The only limit is your imagination.

Heat seal with lasered logo

Lasering is when we use a laser and burn the design into the t-shirt.  I do this process a lot on leather jackets. It gives a subtle tone on tone appearance. It’s great for someone who likes the imprint to be a little subdued.

Bedazzling is the opposite of subdued. It’s when beads (usually sparkly) are attached to the t-shirt. The beads can be added in addition to another printing process to give a design a little extra something. This is a fun option for ladies groups or stagettes.

Silk screening used to be the standard for promotional t-shirts. We still do a lot of silk screened t-shirts.  In large quanitites, it still is the most cost effective way to go. This too has been inproved in the past few years such as new colours; including glow in the dark inks and glitter.

Embroidery is of course still available but is becoming uncommon on promotional t-shirts. People find the backing used in embroidery uncomfortable. It used to be people chose embroidery as it had a higher end look. This isn’t the case anymore.

Fabrics have also come along way .  It used to be the only choice was rough cotton or polyester that pilled. Now, we can get promotional t-shirts with ring spun cotton and a variety of thread counts.  These t-shirts not only feel better to the touch, they have a higher end look and they give a smoother surface area for imprinting.  A smoother surface enables us to produce a higher print quality on the t-shirt.

There are also technical fabrics available. These lightweight fabrics allow moister to move away from the skin and spread it throughout the fabric. Allowing the t-shirt to dry quickly. Saving us from those embarassing sweat marks so you can perform at your best. These t-shirts are a great giveaway at runs or other sporting events.

I remember when having a v-neck t-shirt in the promotional products industry was a fashion piece and everything was ‘unisex’ sizing. (Yes I know, I’ve been around for a while.)  Now, there are fashion styles in both men’s and ladies’ sizes. The ladies’ t-shirts are no longer then men’s shirt cut down to meet ladies size specs. T-shirts have followed retail trends and have become something that people can wear to the office not just to do yard work.

Promotional t-shirts can be used for everyting from runs, team building, jerseys, giveaways, and even gifts. They can be fully customized and can have a high end look. Give us a call 403.457.0944 Calgary or 780.701.9666 Edmonton and we can discuss all the options and come up with the best t-shirt and imprinting process for you.

Product of the Month – Sublimated Jerseys

Sports fees can add up specially when playing on a few different teams at once. (Like me.) After all the fees are paid, teams then want you to purchase a jersey.  Jerseys are great for team bonding and photos but most of us are hesitant as next year there is a chance some people won’t come back and I’ll be stuck purchasing yet ANOTHER jersey.  This is one of the main reasons why I love sublimated jerseys.

Everyone tries to steer away from sublimation when it comes to jerseys for the fact that they seem more expensive; however, in the long run they work out to be less.  Once you place a sublimated jersey order, you do not have to reorder for the entire team when new players join. Only the new players need to order jerseys.  There are no minimums on repeat orders!! You can simply order one or two at a time as needed.

Blazing Balls and their Sublimated Jerseys

Sublimation also allows you to get as creative as you want.  It’s a great option for teams with more than one sponsor or colourful team logos.  You can have as many logos/colours/locations on your jerseys as you like with no additional costs.  This allows your sponsor dollars to actually be spent on jerseys not just imprinting costs.

Another big benefit to sublimated jerseys is no set up or art charges.  We all know how those silk screen set up and art charges can add up. These costs are all included in the cost of the jersey.

Call us today 403.457.0944 and let us design a jersey your team will be proud to wear!

Promotional Item of the Month – Umbrellas

When I was a promotional product consultant in Vancouver, almost every one of my clients ordered umbrellas. Since I’ve moved to Calgary, I’ve only done a handful of umbrella orders for my clients. I’ve never fully understood why as they make an awesome client gift.

I realize it was a no-brainer for Vancouver clients because it rains for 6 months straight 😉 but there are other reasons that umbrellas make a great promotional item.  For example…

You don’t have worry about what size to order.  Sizing is always a concern when ordering client gifts.  Asking someone what size they are is always awkward.

Umbrellas come in a variety of sizes and, colours. There are golf umbrellas, folding umbrellas, in all different colours. We can even get umbrellas with flashlights in them.

Umbrellas can fit into a variety of price points. Prices range from $5.00 and up with minimums as low as 35 units!

For those of you who procrastinated or just realized they don’t have something for their event, I have a supplier who can get umbrellas to you within 72 hours with a logo!

While there are hundreds of styles of umbrellas available, I prefer the golf umbrella.  It’s a great prize for golf tournament table. You can fit more than one person under them. Plus, they have a large imprint area.

Great Promotional Umbella

Great Promotional Umbrella

This 60″ Vented Golf Umbrella is one of my favourites.  It’s large enough for more than one person and the vents ensure the wind doesn’t blow it away.

It’s only $21.00 each with a one colour/one location imprint.  The minimum is only 48 pieces! Additional charges may apply so give us a call (855)45-Promo or email us for your free quote.

February 25th, 2015 is Pink Shirt Day. This is a day to show your support and stand up against bullying.  Bullying is becoming more and more prevalent on our society.  The pink shirt is a symbol of our unity that we will not tolerate bullying in our schools, workplaces or anywhere else for that matter.

The Pink Shirt campain started in Nova Scotia where David Shepherd, Travis Price and their friends organized a high school protest in which the entire school wore pink shirts in support of a boy in Grade 9 who was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt.  I don’t think when these two teens bought a bunch of pink shirts for their classmates that it would become what it has. It’s an amazing story of how one person can make a difference.  (You can read more about their story and about Pink Shirt Day here.)

We at Promotional Bridge urge you to get invovled by donating money, time or by simply wearing a pink shirt and show everyone that bullying will not be tolerated. There are hundreds of ways to get involved. The best way is to talk with your children. Teach them to take a stand against bullies. Get involved.

Pink Shirt Day is the motive behind February’s Promotional Item of the month. It’s a great opportunity to show the community that your company/group/ charity does not support bullying in any shape or form.

Happy New Year

All of us at Promotional Bridge would like to wish you a Happy New Year.  We are excited about the New Year and can’t wait to see what it holds for Promotional Bridge and our clients.

2014 was a great year for us.  We were thrilled with our growth in 2014 and are looking forward to growing even more in 2015. We had a couple of big accomplishments in 2014.  We were third in fundraising for Batting Against Breast Cancer in Calgary, opened our Edmonton location and made some really great friends.  Next year, we plan on expanding our team and continuing to grow.

Last year, we had a host of technology products that came onto the market.  Cell phone chargers and speakers were among our top selling promotional items last year.   We also saw a comeback of ceramic coffee mugs and polar fleece jackets.  New promotional items are typically launched in the spring. We will keep you up on all the new products on our Facebook, Twitter and our Pinterest page. We will also, of course, be blogging about the new promotional items as they launch.

We will have monthly specials in 2015. Specials will be posted on our social networking pages along with an email blast.  If you would like to be on our email list, please sign up here. The specials will be sent on the 15th of each month and will include a variety of promotional and clothing items. Some items maybe discontinued so don’t procrastinate if there is something you like.  We’ve got a few good items on sale this month.

We wish all our clients and friends all the best in 2015!

The Great Sizing Issue

Many people choose not to give clothing items as gifts because they don’t know what sizes to order.   I will admit that it can be a little awkward asking someone what size they wear.  It can also be awkward if you guess the wrong size.  To avoid this situation people opt for other promotional items like desk accessories or bags.  This doesn’t have to be.  There are ways around the ‘what size do I order’ issue.

The sizing issue can be alleviated a few ways. The easiest way is to buck up as ask. You don’t need to make a big deal out of it.  You can send a quick simple email stating that you would like to give them a jacket (or another promotional clothing item) as a gift and ask what size they would prefer.  If you word it as prefer, they may give you their size or maybe they plan on re-gifting the item and will give you the final recipient’s size. Either way, you get a reason to contact the client twice; first to request the size and the second to give them the jacket.  An email is a little less personal, which can alleviate the awkwardness of asking in person.

You can also delegate the asking to another person (or people) in the office. Many of my clients get the receptionist to gather the sizes as she will see almost everyone throughout the day.  I’ve even gone through an office asking everyone for their size.  You could also ask each department head to gather the sizes for their department.

Then there is the guessing game. I usually tell clients what size I am then it makes it easier for them to gauge sizing for others.  The guessing game works best if you’re planning on ordering extras. That way, if you guess a large and they’re a medium you can easily exchange the size.

The best way is to bring in sizing samples and have everyone you wish to give the clothing item to come by and try on the garment. This does have its challenges as not everyone will be able to swing by and try on a garment.  Sizing everyone works well if the clothing items are all for staff who are around all the time but not so well for clients. The best way to fit clients is to ask.
